Mount Waialeale is one of the wettest spots on the planet, getting over 450 inches of rainfall per year according to locals. Today was one of the very infrequent days that the summit wasn’t obscured by cloud cover. What’s amazing is that there’s a ring of mountain ranges around the island that used to be the walls of a volcanic crater 10 miles in diameter back when they were all connected a few million years back. That’s a lot of lava. It really is pretty amazing how lush and green Kauai is.
