THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK

With award-winning author and satirist, Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff

About Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff

MYN …was born in Philadelphia and claims to have become a cynic after finding out the dish ran away with the spoon. In his teens he harbored dreams of becoming a rock and roll guitar god and later went on to graduate from Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music. After spending some time in South Florida, Mark moved back to Philly and went on to work in the studio with Major Label Grammy and Platinum recording acts like Boyz To Men and Taj Mahal before hanging his own shingle as a composer for TV, Film and Video Games. Within a short period of time he contributed music for the 1994 Winter Olympics on CBS and had written themes for several national network shows.Working as a gun for hire, Mark’s career took him to New York, Chicago and later to Los Angeles.

Once in L.A., fate would take another turn. After a personal family tragedy caused Mark to revaluate his life, he decided to begin creative writing again, something he hadn’t taken seriously since before he picked up a guitar. A few well-honed spec scripts later and Mark was invited to be a member of the elite Warner Bros. Drama Writer’s Workshop in Burbank. What would follow would be a number of writing assignments for film and television and suddenly Mark’s career as a screenwriter was born.

In 2005, Mark launched the podcast Pacific Coast Hellway one day on his commute home and the rest, as they say… is history. Starting in November of that year, PCH began a 5-days a week run on Sirius Satellite Radio on the Stars Channel until April 2007 when they finally figured out what he was saying on air. Both Mark and PCH were featured in August 2006’s issue of Playboy Magazine, which called the show “The world’s most offensively enlightened podcast”.

In July of 2006, Mark launched the hit horror series “Shadow Falls”, now with its third season starting in the summer of 2008. Later, in December, would bring the launch of the serialized audiobook “Number One with a Bullet” or “N1B” as it’s known to its worldwide cadre of fans (a.k.a. “Bulletheads). N1B would later go on to win the Parsec Award at DragonCon in 2007.

Though loathe to admit it, he’s also the author of the book “Where’s My F*cking Latte?”, a collection of ultimate Hollywood insider anecdotes told from the perspective of the lowly personal assistant. WMFL was featured on “Access Hollywood” when, for some crazy reason they brought Mark into the studio for an on camera interview about the book. Go figure. Don’t believe me? Watch for yourself.

Mark is currently the Director of Content Development for Mevio and the Editor in Chief of Podshow Press
